The Irony of Truth Sparking Violence

Martin added, “You know, it’s ironic that everywhere you write or speak about innocence and violence begetting violence, peace does not exactly break out around you.”

“Isn’t that the truth,” Pitcairn concurred with a puzzled look. “Clint told me this would really push people to the limit.”

“There was a fellow who wrote that Gandhi and Martin Luther King couldn’t have been successful with their non-violence practices if it weren’t for others who were paralleling them with the application of violence.”

“Hmm, I don’t know about that. I think there is just something so threatening about these ideas it nails people right between the eyes. The result is a defensive and sometimes violent reaction. Maybe that’s why both of those guys were toast. Jesus too.”
