Return to Harmony

The last posting, The Prodigal Son, has caused me to reflect deeply on experiences of redemption. And I don’t mean that in the religious sense, but in the human realm.

Can you recall a time when you were deeply conflicted with someone, or when some grievance impaired an important relationship? The discomfort of these situations can be extraordinarily difficult.

Can you call to memory the feeling when reconciliation came about…of the weight being lifted?

I remember a long-standing conflict with someone I loved. Almost daily my psyche would awaken me at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning, and the grinding thoughts would resume. There was no escape, and no apparent solution.

In the end a necessary and much overdue conversation took place. At some moment, clarity came as did resolution. And the burden lifted for the first time in weeks. Still to this day I can recall that feeling.

We pay a terrible price when we are unable to find a way to harmony.
