Fix the Insides and the Outside with Follow

He slipped into a metal chair in a cool basement room just as the gavel fell for the start of a meeting of nearly thirty alcoholics. A woman by the name of Gloria opened the meeting and then picked a topic from the literature. It was on the ninth step, the amends step, and Pitcairn listened with great interest. The group was quite diverse with a great deal of long-term sobriety. What he heard made him think deeply about the amends he was in the process of making through Davidson’s victims. Too many people think an apology is sufficient, while others focus on changing behavior. Clint had helped him see these were only markers along the way to inner healing. “Fix the insides and the outside will follow,” his sponsor had often said.
